Distinguished and Famous people from Tambo Valley

🌿 John Butler

John Butler, a poet and sculptor living at Swifts Creek, saw creative possibilities in neglected land where the creek meets the Tambo River. He worked with local students on a walking track and imagined stone cairns displaying verses of his poetry among the river gums. He died in 2014 before the project was complete, leaving sketches, the poem and the beginnings of construction. A community working group revived the idea, combining weed control, local art and a renewed path. The 2019 launch included handmade waterbug sculptures, a reading by his son and, after drought, a welcome downpour. The walk turned one resident's vision into a shared local landscape.

🪵 Jack Ezard

John Arthur Ezard, known as Jack, brought a long record of sawmilling and mechanical innovation to Swifts Creek. He had managed mills from a young age and adopted powerful logging equipment, steam machinery and even his own aircraft in the course of business. Fire repeatedly disrupted the family's earlier Thomson Valley operations, requiring rebuilding and timber salvage. By 1951 those operations were moving east to Swifts Creek, where his later use of a large steam logging engine extended an older technology into the early 1960s. His Tambo Valley connection belongs to working industry and the difficult movement of timber from steep country to the mill.
